Sexual Education as a means to break gender bias

How many of your questions regarding sex have been disregarded because it was unpleasant to talk about. ‘It’s not very nice to talk about’, ‘it’s not civil’ – are the thoughts that’s been instilled into your mind and it haunts you until you get the answers the hard way – mostly at the doctor’s desk. Addressing gender bias and sexual health are important but made insignificant because of the ancient notions we carry with ourselves.

It most definitely has to be addressed if one helps the misperception around the other.

Gender bias is an age-old inequality that has taken many turns but never for the better. The final hope is to teach the children about the bias and bring them up to be unbiased but respectful. Like Gender bias, Sexual education has been stuffed in the shadow. Here’s an article on the importance of sexual education for the children to create a better society in the future.

Sexual education makes the students aware of their body functioning and development. It covers puberty, sex, motherhood, and precautions to be taken. And understanding oneself will make understanding others easier which in turn makes a better world.

Why Sexual Education is important?

Gender equity: Sexual education has a way of teaching gender equity and not the gender equality (which does not conform in every aspect). It ensures respect to all. It diffuses the prejudices of what’s been passed on. Sexual education lays out the facts to make your up about gender.

Respect: In a male dominated society, sexual education enlightens the plight of the other genders and it creates a society where everyone is respected despite their gender or the roles they are tied to fulfil. Respect has a way of dissolving the crime factors on other gender by considerable amount.

Breaks the myths: Men and women need to be taught about each other because they are as much a mystery to others as they are to themselves. The knowledge breaks the myths that is built based on their ignorant perception or the cultural elements.

Children look up to us for guidance and we should not miss the teachable moments just because it is difficult to talk.

We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.
